Q. How do I create a webpage without having to know HTML?
A. There are many programs you can use as a point-and-click webpage builder. Among the most popular are Netscape Composer, Microsoft Word 97 and 2000. You can also use Microsoft Power Point and Front Page or Macromedia's Dreamweaver. For simplicity, we recommend Netscape Composer and Microsoft Word 97 and 2000.

Go to Netscape Browser Central to download one of the Netscape packages for free. Netscape Composer comes bundled with the Netscape browser and e-mail programs. We recommend using the Netscape Communicator package version 4.7x or Netscape 6.0. Older and slower computers may have an easier time running Communicator 4.7x than Netscape 6.0, which is larger and slower than Communicator 4.7x.

Q. What do I need in order to save files to my webspace?
A. Once you have your webspace activated and your site is designed, you will need an FTP program to upload the files to your web space. Click on the icon of the FTP program you wish to use from below, to be taken to their site.

Windows (all versions)
Macintosh
Cute FTP Fetch 3.0.3
WS_FTP Netfinder 2.0

Before uploading your files, you will need the following information:

  • Host Name: web.blueone.net-- for use with Blue One personal accounts; www.yourdomain.com/net/org-- if you host your website with us
  • User ID/Login name: for personal account customers, use the first part of your primary e-mail address that appears before the "@" symbol.

Website Problems

Q. HTTP Error 403: I've uploaded my website, but when I go to my webpage's address, I get "You are not authorized to view this page" or "Directory Listing Denied." What should I do?
A. Your website's homepage should be called either index.htm or index.html. Not having a file called index.htm or index.html will give you the You are not authorized to view this page error in Internet Explorer, or Directory Listing Denied error in Netscape Navigator and Communicator.
